TEST MODE
Have Fun & Make the World a Better Place!

Landscaping has been around for over two millennia (One of the ancient wonders of the world was a landscape design project!) but still only a small percentage of the world’s population can really afford to make their yard look awesome. In a world where we have self-driving cars, we believe there is a better way. The Plant Club is a bunch of people working together to try to make gardening and getting the plants you need easier, cheaper and more successful.

Do you enjoy spending time seeing, thinking, or learning about plants? If so, you could probably help us with our mission and have a great time, too! Check out some of the help we could use (ranging from a totally flexible hour a week to fun part-time jobs with awesome plant enthusiasts) below. If anything below strikes your fancy, or if you can think of something we haven’t yet, shoot us an email at helpusgrow@northshoreplantclub.com!

Part-Time Jobs

(for which we might be able to pay you a bit)

Club Leader or Plant Pickup Point

Want to help your neighbors enjoy the wonders of the Plant Club? Help us launch a new plant club and fill your yard with cool plants for your friends every couple of weeks. We’ll do most of the hard work behind the scenes!

Plant Sorting

Do you enjoy being outside, getting a little exercise, and learning more about plants? Does the idea of seeing a botanic garden come off a truck every couple weeks sound like fun? Then, we’d love your help unloading plants and sorting them.

Organizing Deliveries

If you also enjoy making sure things get to the right place at the right time, we'd love help organizing incoming and outgoing deliveries on Wednesdays.

Van Driver

Driving an Uber would be cool if it weren’t for all the crazy customers. But what if you could spend a day delivering beautiful plants to your neighbors?

Garden Coach

Have you already filled every square inch of your own yard? If you have, then you can share the fruits of your obsession, helping neighbors plan and learn to care for their own gardens!

Social Media

We want to share the word about gardening and the Plant Club more widely via FaceBook and Instagram. We have tons of interesting photos, stats, infographics, and garden coach advice, but need a bit of help to get it to the right place.

Fun Smaller Projects

(with perhaps a little discount on plants)

Curating Articles about Plants

If you’re always reading gardening magazines and searching on the internet about plants, we’d love to help you share the best gardening articles you see with the rest of The Club.

Curating Local Gardening Events

What are the best gardening events going in the Chicagoland area? We could use some help curating a list of the best plant events at local botanic gardens, garden centers, and garden clubs!

Education Committee

We'd like to organize a calendar of "Zoom"-style events with gardening experts who would like to share what they know with the Plant Club, so we can keep growing as gardeners and appreciaters of plants year-round.

Take Photos in Your Neighborhood or Botanic Gardens You Visit

Do you love to take photos of plants? We’re always looking to increase our plant photo library! If you enjoy spending time with a camera, you might have photos of plants we’re missing or photos that would be good for interactive landscapes, color wheel, and botanic gardens.

Tag photos

It’s our mission to help people understand what plants look like year round, and which plants tend to look good together. If you enjoy learning about plants, you might enjoy helping us tag the many photos we take so we can make our interactive landscapes and color wheel more useful!

Limited Availability

We try very hard to source exactly what you’d like, but sometimes growers run out of plants! While this variety is a great deal at the price shown, we know that it has limited availability. If you want the plant even if it might be more expensive, or in a different size or quantity -- after you place your order, just send us a quick note at help@northshoreplantclub.com. Then, we’ll try to get you some version of this from one of our growers. And if we can’t get it from anywhere, of course, we’ll send a refund!

Field-Grown vs. Greenhouse-Grown Plants

Plants which are well-adapted to our local climate are most often field-grown (outside). Field-grown plants are generally cheaper and have the advantage of already somewhat acclimated to our cold winters, but that means they’re not artificially far along in the spring and tend to bloom at the normal time in our area.

Spring annuals and tender perennials are typically grown in Greenhouses so they can be ready and luxurious exactly when customers want them. Some perennials are also “forced” into early bloom in greenhouses. In May, there can be a very big difference between field-grown and greenhouse-grown plants of the same type. The latter typically look good right away (so they’re a great choice where that’s important), but we typically pay a premium for it.

Benefits of Membership

Want a better way to get great plants and make your yard look awesome? Create your account below and get:

  • The best plants… from the same sources the pros use, but at near wholesale prices
  • More plants in more sizes than anywhere else… whether you’re looking for classics or rarities; annuals, perennials or shrubs; one plant or a whole yardful!
  • "No Contact" delivery or easy pick-up at a site near you without fighting the retail crowds. You choose!

Membership is free, but — since we rely on delivery and local pick-up — you have to live near one of our hubs (or be willing to drive to a site to pick them up). If you live farther away, and would like to help us bring the club to your neighbors, please email helpusgrow@northshoreplantclub.com.

About Ordering From The Plant Club

To secure the best prices for club members and make sure we know the current plants available from each nursery, we take orders only a couple of times a month.

Shoot us an email at help@northshoreplantclub.com, and we'll be happy to talk about plants or let you know when it's time to buy them!
